Solapur Solar Project

1st floating solar plant at Ujjani dam, Solapur

In a green energy initiative, the state government has kick-started a project to generate 1,000 megawatts (MW) of solar energy through a floating plant on the waters of Solapurs Ujjani dam. Twenty-eight companies have responded to the bidding process for setting up the plant.
Solar projects need land to erect panels and with land acquisition having become costlier, the energy department has adopted the concept of floating solar panels on dam water. The first such project in the state will be implemented at Ujjani dam in Solapur district.

MEDA (Maharashtra Energy Development Agency) is implementing the floating solar project and has recently invited bids for the same. Twenty-eight companies, which are into solar energy manufacture, have come forward. For feeder-based solar plants, Mahavitaran has got a power rate of Rs 2.72 per unit for 1,000MW capacity plants, which is the cheapest in the country. So, the government is expecting similar or even lower rates for floating solar plants as no land needs to be acquired, said senior officers of the energy department.

SOLAR POLICY FOR Maharashtra - Residential, Commercial & Industrial

1. NET METERING -
Net metering is a billing system that allows rooftop owners having solar system installed at their rooftop to sell any excess electricity generated from solar system to local electricity utility
Capacity of solar system
Size: Up to 1 MWp; with variation of 5%
Voltage level: 230 / 240V : upto 8 kWp max., 400/ 415V (Three phase)
Above 8 to 150 kWp max. in Metropolitian Area and 8 to 80 kWp in Other Areas
11 kV and Above Level : Above 150 to 1000kWp max. in Metropolitian Area and 80 to 1000 kWp in Other Areas
The HT consumers (11 KV and above) may install and connect Rooftop Solar PV systems at their LT bus bar System provided that, in such cases, the Net Meter shall be installed on the HT side of the Transformer

Maharashtra solar policy

Maharashtra has set a target of generating additional grid-connected solar power capacity of 7500 MW by 2019. Of this, 2500 MW would be generated as a public-private partnership with MAHAGENCO (Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd, formerly known as the MSEB). The remaining 5000MW solar power projects will be tendered to other developers.

Rooftop Solar

Maharashtra approved the states rooftop solar energy policy in January 2016.

The policy offers several concessions encouraging both public departments and private entities to go solar. The policy instructs Civic Development Authorities to provide construction permission only to government buildings and colonies that pledge to install rooftop solar.

Government and semi-government offices that have pledged to go solar can receive up to 100% subsidy, while private offices and companies can receive up to 15% subsidy for installing rooftop solar panels.

Residential, commercial and industrial buildings are setting up rooftop solar systems to cut down energy bills, making use of the subsidies offered by the government.

Net Metering for Domestic Solar Rooftops

Maharashtra provides a net metering system for domestic solar rooftops. The size of the solar system determines the voltage level that will be fed into the grid, and the MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd.) is in charge of the application processing for Net Metering.
